The Aussie bunch were seeing their team seal the series, the chant was a popular Australian sporting chant, ‘Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi’, the last bit belted out by almost every Australian fan in the ground. The Indian fans, were smaller in number than in Melbourne and Sydney. The chant was an ironic one — “Hum Honge Kamyab”, the timing questionable. It promoted one veteran commentator to remark that, “The fans expectations are higher than even the floodlights at the ground.”

But can fans really be blamed for unhealthy expectations? Going by the way India’s fans have expressed displeasure over the recent losses in England and Australia, the next time India wins, there just could be a party for the ages.
