Led by the Muslim League leader Masarat Aalam, Hurriyat activists took out a protest rally in Srinagar this afternoon, shouting slogans against the arrest of Geelani, who was taken into custody on Wednesday in connection with cases relating to "inciting communalism and working against the country", and remanded in judicial custody for three weeks.
A spokesman for the amalgam said it will continue to protest the 'unjustified arrest' of Geelani in the days to come and called for a general strike on Friday in this connection.
Geelani was in Poonch on Wednesday as part of a campaign to meet the people in the border district and adjoining Rajouri, the spokesman said.
