External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Friday said he was relieved that Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee had ended her fast following appeals by the president, prime minister and West Bengal chief minister.

"I am very happy about it and thank her. I hope she will join talks with the state government (on the acquisition of land at Singur for a Tata Motors' project) after she gets well," Mukherjee told reporters in Nabagram in Murshidabad district.
Banerjee, who ended her 25-day-old fast on Thursday night, is now in an intensive care unit of a hospital in Kolkata.
