I am what my numberplate reads!
Darlin? I hate close-ups! I kick when you blow a horn! I lead, you follow!
Darlin’ I hate close-ups! I kick when you blow a horn! I lead, you follow!

THESE ARE some of the numberplate signatures which make your ride a fun, especially when you are chasing a bike declaring ‘Papa’s Gift’! Yes, there’s hardly any motorbike without a young slogan. The difference being that the slogans; have grown in variety from expressing love to passing on a novel thought for saving petrol.
Do not chase girls; save petrol is a slogan that’s witty as well as novel. Some numberplates have names of their beloved ones. Others have daughter’s name. But, some drivers are self-proclaimed beasts—‘Tigers,’and others show their commitment to the religion by simply replacing the registration number by a religious slogan. A few bikes have deterrents likes Press, Police, Army — even Detective — keep away. The interesting part is that many ‘sloganeers’ may not even be the part of the organisations mentioned. The popular among these, the police sign comprising combination of red and dark blue colour either rectangle or a double triangle. Similarly, the employees display the names of their respective organisations proudly for example — ‘High Court,’ ‘Defence,’ ‘Collectorate,’ NR (Northern Railway), NER (North Eastern Railway), Uttar Pradesh Sachivalaya, etc.
More than lengthy slogans some motorbikes display artistic pursuits of the owners. And for this one needs to simply get an eye (preferably that of woman) painted on it, a claw of a tiger, a beautiful lady envious figure painted on it or just a mention ‘Fire.’
The trend for such slogans was not new. Slogans like Buri Nazar wale Tera Mooh kala, Maa Tera Aashirvad, etc were seen on the rear side of heavy vehicles like trucks. But the trend has caught up with the youngsters, who have been painting ‘attractive’ slogans.
SP (Traffic) Om Kar Singh quoting the recent High Court directive said that except for the registration number as specified in section 50 of the Motor Vehicle Rules, nothing should displayed on the number plates. He said that the there were clear specifications as to what would contravene the law as regards the number plates.
