The new ad campaign for Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata IPL team is Sabki Jeet Pakki. That’s quite a philosophy, coming from a person whose field of work sees egos igniting like solar flares every other day.
Shah Rukh shrugs off any suggestion of envy in Bollywood. “I don’t think anyone is envious of anyone else in the film industry. I don’t think small, nor do I get involved in small issues. Meri soch, mera level bahut upar hai,” says King Khan.
“I speak for everyone when I say we will entertain you. If I comment on others, again there will be a controversy. Bekar mein cheezein chalti rehti hai - kabhi mera jhagda hai Aamir ke saath to kabhie Salman ke saath. Woh chalta rehta hai, jhagde bhi chalte rahenge, but our work is beyond all this.”
We can believe that, since Shah Rukh and Aamir recently addressed a joint news conference on the film industry versus multiplex standoff.
A year in cricket
“It is doing very well — cricket-wise, entertainment-wise and also controversy-wise,” Shah Rukh quips about his team, looking back at his past year as a team owner. He is not giving any strategy for IPL Season 2.
“If we reveal the strategy baki saare team usse copy nahin karlenge aur jeet nahin jaayenge?” he laughs, adding on a more serious note, “I have a belief that you should always try new things — failing while trying these new things is not bad, because at least you tried something new. Last year, we were not successful, but I do not get involved in how one should play.”
Which brings us to the multiple captain controversy. “I don’t know why people are making a fuss. If it doesn’t work, we will go back to the traditional format,” he says.
Talking about IPL team owner, Preity Zinta, he says that they are “very close” and that she even attended the fashion show where he launched the Kolkata team’s apparel. “Preity coming to our event, Bachchan sir endorsing her team … in a way we all are a very happy family”.

“I’ve asked the parents of my angels to encourage them,” says SRK, who selected his cheerleader squad through a reality TV show. For the winners, meeting him at his home Mannat was the greater reward.
“He was so sweet, just as I thought [he would be],” says Samyukta S from Bangalore. Rupali Kantharia from Mumbai, the youngest ‘angel’ at 15, adds, “He was nice to every one of us.” For Ritika Chhibber of Jabalpur meeting him was even more exciting than going to South Africa.
