An Indian Air Force radar fitter hanged himself at the Awantipore airbase in Jammu and Kahsmir's Pulwama district, police said on Thursday.

Krishan Kumar, 28, hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, committed suicide in the night between Wednesday and Thursday. The Awantipore air force station, about 45 km from in Srinagar, is the largest airbase in the state.

Incidents of suicide and fratricidal killings by troops deployed in Kashmir in the last 18 years have posed serious problems to the security forces.
