ID-card checking drive intensifies at AU

A number of students without I-cards were pulled up and many an outsider escorted out of the premises with a stern warning.
The proctor along with his team visited the Central Library, English and Hindi departments, Union Hall and KPUC gate and personally checked the ID-cards of students. Later, he visited the Faculty of Science and reprimanded students found without valid I-cards.
“During the drive, around 17 ex-students were found on campus without any reason. They were immediately asked to leave and warned not to visit the campus unless they have some specific work. Some Intermediate students, including girls, were also found roaming around the campus. They were taken to the proctor’s office, asked to write an apology letter and allowed to leave after a warning,” Prof Mishra said.
As many as 38 students were caught with invalid ID-cards on Tuesday and two were even found to be carrying I-cards with fake signatures of the proctor.
V-C’s initiative hailed
AUTA (Y) president Dr Yogeshwar Tiwari has hailed AU vice-chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe’s initiative to visit Union Hall on Tuesday to seek students’ support to improve the functioning of the varsity.
“By his actions, Prof Rajen Harshe has shown that he is committed to improve the atmosphere in the university with the support of teachers, non-teaching staff members and students. The AU fraternity should extend whole-hearted support to the V-C to help him get the varsity back on track,” Tiwari stated in a communiqué issued on Wednesday.
Students’ lectures
TWO ASSAMESE students, Ashish Bhave and NB Barua, are touring the State to create awareness about the problems arising out of the increasing number of illegal migrants from Bangladesh to Assam.
In this connection, they would deliver lectures on the ‘Upsurge of illegal migrants from Bangladesh’ at the students’ union hall at 11:30 am on Thursday, under the auspices of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, said ABVP mahanagar secretary Vivek Mishra.
Inter-hostel cricket tourney
AU V-C Prof RG Harshe inaugurated the inter-hostel cricket tournament, organised in the memory of former AU students’ union president the late Shobh Nath Singh.
Prof Harshe said cricket developed team spirit and co-ordination among the players. This helped the players not to lose their temper under critical circumstances. Such tournaments should be organised regularly, he added.
AU chief procter Prof HN Mishra, Prof RK Upadhyay, Dr Harsh Kumar, Dr Ramendra Giri, AU cricket team coach Devesh Mishra and several students were present on the occasion. PCB Hostel defeated SD Jain Hostel by 162 runs in the opening match of the tournament. Dharmendra of PCB Hostel received was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
Exam re-scheduled
The Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University examinations, which were scheduled on Thursday, will now be held at the same time and centre on Friday. The change has been made on account of Moharram.
Campus recruitments
Allahabad Agricultural Institute-Deemed University has organised a campus recruitment drive from Wednesday till February 11.
Tata Chemicals Ltd and Pradan (Professional Assistance for Development Action) ae visiting the deemed university.
