ALLAHABAD'S INDIAN Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-A) is gearing up to host the first ever alumni meet of the Deemed University from October 27.

A large number of IIIT-A graduates— who passed out right since 1999 when the institute was set up— from all across the country and even abroad are expected to grace the two-day occasion.
"We started our journey seven years ago in 1999. Within this short span of time our Institute has shown a spectacular growth in IT education and research.
Efforts and hard work of IIIT-A fraternity has enabled the Institute to secure eleventh position among top class technological institutions in our country this year and we want to make the year memorable by further strengthening the relations between the Institute and its alumni," informed IIIT-A Director Dr MD Tiwari.
He said that the "First Home Coming Festival" will help the graduates of the Institute to come and witness first hand the achievements and the progress of their alma mater during the past few years. On the occasion a number of events have been planned by the IIIT-A officials and students.
"Interactions will be encouraged between the present students with the alumni through parallel sessions which we will organise for students of various programmes like BTech, MBA, MS (CLIS) and MTech depending on the number of participants," he added.
Dr Tiwari said that students will organise cultural programmes in the evenings while a sports meet with competitions between present students and the alumni too will make the gathering interesting and bonding.
"To facilitate maximum participation, the meet is being organised for two days of the next week end after Diwali festival ie October 27-28, 2006. The Institute will be providing the alumni partial travel assistance of up to the extent of Rs 7000 besides free boarding and lodging facilities," he said.
Dr Tiwari said that to sustain the growth and organisation of similar events on a regular basis once a year in future, it has been planned to strengthen the Alumnae Association so that it could organise such activities in various future occasions.
"We have sent e-mails to our alumni and have also requested them to forward the mail to all Alumnae of IIIT-A they know. We have also requested them to give any valuable suggestion they desire to make the event more successful," he said. Dr Tiwari informed that alumni are also being encouraged to register on-line at the earliest so as to help the institute make necessary preparations in advance.
"Our students will also Webcast the functions and the events of the two days through TriNetra, IIIT-A's very own webcasting service, that has now earned respect and trust of all. The webcast will make it possible for even those alumni who fail to make it to the functions here to be a part of the proceedings," he said.
