India beckons in Hannover

Manmohan will be German Chancellor Angela Markel?s guest as he opens the 5-day biz show, writes KA Badarinath.

As the curtains go up on the “largest conglomeration of businesses worldwide” in this German city, the spotlight will be on an Indian. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be German Chancellor Angela Markel’s guest as he inaugurates the five-day business extravaganza.

The PM is the head of the Indian delegation comprising corporate honchos, half a dozen ministers, five chief ministers and 370 companies from India showcasing their technological prowess, cost-effective and quality goods and services to the world.

This year’s fair has India as the partner country. Incidentally, India had been a partner country twenty one years ago.

The current edition of the fair will see over 6500 companies from 70 countries set up shop.

In a bid to make the most of the opportunity provided by its special status, the the Indian companies and the government organizations are going whole hog in showcasing the country as the most preferred investment destination and manufacturing hub internationally.
