Sridevi, who started learning the dance form at the age of five, set up Natya Tapasya in Canada two years ago, focussing on a strong 'guru-shishya' (teacher-pupil) relationship, reports the South Asian Observer.

An accomplished and certified yoga teacher, Sridevi took her Bharatanatyam teacher's training from Adayar K. Lakshman of the dance school Kalakshetra in Chennai.

She believes that it is only through yoga that students can gain strength and stamina to learn the rigorous and pure form of the Kalakshetra style.

Her innovative choreography has been well appreciated and her dance performances have been telecast on Indian and Arabic channels, earning her laurels, especially in the United Arab Emirates.

Sridevi started teaching the dance form at a young age and has trained more than 700 children.

She has also been actively involved in community development programmes like blood donation camps, charity functions in India and Dubai, relief work and fundraising campaigns.
