News about the death on Thursday of Naveen Sharma, a resident of the Germany Dass Park locality, was received by his father Atam Parkash Sharma, who runs a travel agency here.

Atam Parkash was informed about Naveen's death by one of his son's friends late yesterday.

According to the family, Naveen had settled in Manila over 12 years ago. He was married to a Filipino lady and had two children.

After robbing him of his money, the unidentified assailants gave him some poisonous substance that killed him. They then threw his body on the road.

A pall of gloom descended on the Sharma residence as Naveen's relatives started thronging there to mourn his death. Efforts are being made to bring his body to the country for the last rites, his family said.
