Indian PC market grows by 22 per cent in Q2 of 2007

Desktop PC shipments showed a growth of 11.3% while notebook PC spurted by 73.1% during the same period (April-June) this year.

The overall client PC market in India grew 22.1 per cent, recording 1.53 million shipments in the second quarter of 2007 calendar year as against 1.25 million in the corresponding period last calendar year, market research firm IDC said.

Desktop PC shipments showed a growth of 11.3 per cent while notebook PC spurted by 73.1 per cent during the same period (April-June) this year.

In the overall client PC (notebooks and Desktops combined) market,the rankings remained unchanged. HP retained the top spot with a market share of 22.2 per cent, followed by HCL at 12.8 per cent and Lenovo at 10.3 per cent in terms of unit shipments during the second quarter, IDC said.

In terms of desktop PC shipments, HP managed to regain its top position with a market share of 16.7 per cent, followed by HCL and Lenovo in second and third spots respectively.

In terms of notebook PC shipments, HP retained the top spot with a market share of 40.4 per cent. Lenovo occupied the second spot while Dell climbed up to take the third spot.

Notebook PC market momentum continued unabated in the second quarter, IDC said, adding that brand value and service capabilities would define future market leaders, while volume growth is expected to help make notebook PCs more affordable.
