In the U.A.E., especially in Dubai and the adjoining Sharjah, for Indians it is a home away from home. We celebrate all our festivals here and the people of the U.A.E. are generally cooperative and appreciative of the successful functioning of our democracy, our culture and the advances India has made in science and technology. The U.A.E. comprising seven states, has a higher number of expatriates than its own nationals. So, there are people from different parts of the world with different cultures.

Indians are working hard and are contributing a lot to the development of this country. There are many successful Indian businessmen. Many Indian men and women are holding high positions in government and private offices. Indian movies and music are popular in Dubai as well. Thanks to the proliferation of satellite channels, we have a surfeit of Hindi movies and TV serials shown here.

There's a great rush in the month of March every year when Dubai holds a shopping festival at which manufacturers and traders from various other parts of the world exhibit their wares. At almost every shop, there are Indian employees. And language is not a problem here as a mixture of Hindi and Urdu is spoken everywhere. Indian restaurants serving a large variety of North Indian and South Indian cuisines are particularly popular.
