Indians on hijacked Singapore ship safe: Govt

"India's Singapore High Commissioner TCA Raghavan has approached the Singapore government. They (Indians) are said to be safe," the external affairs ministry sources said. The ship was seized by the pirates on October 15 in the Indian Ocean about 500 kilometers north of the Seychelles island.

The Indians on board a Singaporean ship hijacked in the Gulf of Aden by Somali pirates are safe, external affairs ministry sources said on Sunday.

"India's Singapore High Commissioner TCA Raghavan has approached the Singapore government. They (Indians) are said to be safe," the sources told IANS.

There are conflicting reports about the number of Indian crew members on board of the Singaporean ship MV Kota Wajar, which was hijacked on Thursday.

Some TV channels have reported that there were four Indians on board.

India's high commission has been asked to keep in touch with the Singapore government and the shipping company, sources added.

The Singaporean ship MV Kota Wajar was hijacked Thursday by the pirates in the Gulf of Aden.
