The wholesale price index rose 4.02 per cent on an annual basis in the week ended Feb 11, lower than the previous week's 4.08 per cent, due to a decline in cotton seed, raw cotton and groundnut seed prices, data showed on Friday.

The rate was higher than a poll which forecast wholesale price inflation at 3.92 per cent. The rate was 5.12 per cent during the corresponding week of 2005.
The WPI is more closely watched than the consumer price index because it has a higher number of products in its basket and is published weekly. CPI is published monthly.
