Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Saturday ordered an inquiry by Railway Safety Commissioner into the bridge collapse.

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Saturday ordered an inquiry by Railway Safety Commissioner into the collapse of a road overbridge over a running train near Bhagalpur railway station.

Prasad also ordered suspension of the deputy chief engineer (construction) and an assistant engineer of the railways who were posted at Bhagalpur and were supervising the dismantling of the 150-year-old overbridge, railway sources said.

The Railway minister said a criminal case would be lodged against those found guilty of negligence leading to the incident.

A portion of the overbridge, known as 'Ulta Pul', being dismantled by the railways collapsed on sleeper class coach number S 8 of 3071 Howrah-Jamalpur Superfast train near the eastern cabin of Bhagalpur station trapping several passengers inside and caused injury to about 30 people.
