"I support Waqar for asking for a long term contract. He is not a magician who can correct things in a week," Inzamam said.

The skipper said he was expecting Waqar to teach the youngsters the art of reverse swing to trouble the famed Indian batting line-up in the absence of Shoaib Akhtar.

"When we had Wasim and Waqar in the team, new bowlers could learn a lot by playing with them. But now there is no senior bowler in the team, so we need an expert fast bowler like Waqar as bowling coach," he was quoted as saying by the PPI news agency.

The skipper recalled Pakistan's high rate of success when the two master bowlers — Akram and Younis — were at their prime in the last decade.

"They taught the whole world about reverse swing and that was our main weapon. Now I would like this to be passed on to the juniors," Inzamam said.

The PCB had on Thursday decided against appointing a bowling coach on a long-term basis, thus shooting down the proposal floated by Pakistani captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and coach Bob Woolmer.

PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan, who was manager of the 2003 World Cup team that was led by Waqar, had told newsmen after the ad hoc committee meeting that he wanted Waqar as bowling coach only for the Indian tour whereas the bowler was interested in a long term contract.
