Recently, there has been a revolution in the women’s lingerie department. More and more women are rejecting the thong in favour of comfortable (and fashionable) boys shorts and hipster panties.

Thong sales have remarkably dipped worldwide. Nowadays, fashion experts believe the thong is being rejected because women are looking for more comfortable and less revealing alternatives, such as cut-off “boy shorts”.

The trend of flashing your thong above your jeans was a rage at a time, but it also drew harsh criticism. This look was branded as ‘disgusting’ by UK TV’s What Not to Wear fashion guru Trinny Woodall. Owner of her own women’s underwear company and supermodel Elle Macpherson once said, “G-strings are uncomfortable. Girls want real knickers now.”

That’s not all. Boy shorts are healthier to wear than a thong, say doctors. Delhi-based gynaecologist Dr Archana Limaye testifies, “Wearing a thong can abrade and injure the sensitive skin around the genital area.”

The thong is also the number one enemy of the saggy derrière while boy shorts provide support to the cheeks. Whatever may be the reason, one thing is for sure — the time for more coverage in the derrière department is here.
