It’s a poll gimmick, fumes Rajnikanth
Tamil superstar Rajnikanth blasted Karnataka leaders BS Yeddiyurappa and SM Krishna for fanning the flames of the Hogenakkal row, while two other stars urged the ruling DMK to flex its muscles with the Centre.
The demand came during a show of unity that saw the Tamil film industry stage a protest fast against “Kannada anti-social elements”, for targeting theatres screening Tamil films in Karnataka.
A fuming Rajnikanth thundered: “The Karnataka leader of a national party started it but his counterparts in Tamil Nadu or Delhi do not bat an eyelid. Another leader, who has just left Mumbai, says that Karunanidhi’s speech is the cause for violence. What a disgrace? I urge them to be politically honest and not stoop low for the sake of elections”.
“Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have had a clear agreement over their borders for the past 50 years. If someone raises an objection now, should not they be kicked?”
DMDK MLA and actor Vijayakanth said it was time DMK flexed its muscles even if it means pulling out of the UPA to assert Tamil Nadu’s right to use water at Hogenakkal.
