It’s (still) in the bag

Now that our MPs may have taken to wearing their bribes up their sleeves, we would like to know the ultimate fate of the Rs 1 crore.

The cash is out of the bag even as the deal’s in the bag. Now for the all-important question: where is the money that was being waved around in the House on Tuesday? And what of the hapless ‘bribe-giver’ who may now want his Rs 1 crore back? Imagine the horror of the briber (if there was one) when the bribes (if there were any) spilt the bucks for all to see. Now that the ‘loot’ is safely stashed away in the cavernous vaults of Parliament House, we can assume that the briber (if there was one) can kiss it bye-bye.

Purists may tsk-tsk at this naked show of notes. But our MPs have come clean on their dirty tricks. They have shown us the true meaning of what the phrase, ‘Show me the money’ means. They don’t give two loots about all that nonsense about probity in public life. We can no longer pretend that we’ve been wad, sorry, had by our elected representatives.

Now that our MPs may have taken to wearing their bribes up their sleeves, we would like to know the ultimate fate of the Rs 1 crore. Will it vanish? So next time you are in Parliament, keep your ears peeled. The rustle and bustle you hear could mean that democracy has gained greater currency.
