Exams are over and it’s time to take things easy, but Delhi’s school students are not cutting slack. A day or two’s break is all many are planning to take. There are important decisions to be made and not just about what stream to choose.

Class X examinees are making a beeline for career counsellors seeking professional guidance for choosing their dream career. “Interest can’t be the only deciding factor. One has to see the prospects. I plan to consult a career counsellor for testing my aptitude for a particular field.

Only a professional can tell you what options exist for a combination of subjects,” said Raghav Shrivastav of Delhi Public School. SK Pillai, who runs the Institute of Career Studies, said, “It is a growing trend.

Parents have so little knowledge of existing opportunities and tend to fixate on only four or five options like medical, engineering and software engineering. We keep a child’s interest in mind, apart from assessing his aptitude.”
