Jabalpur Cantonment

Jabalpur was the capital of the Gond Kings during the 12th century as also the seat of the Kalchuri dynasty.

Jabalpur was the capital of the Gond Kings during the 12th century as also the seat of the Kalchuri dynasty. Jabalpur was ruled by the Marathas until 1817, when the British wrested the city from them.

British presence is very much visible in Jabalpur with the spacious cantonment which still houses a command of Indian Army and the Ordnance Depot. The barraks and spacious colonies espousing British architecture also make the distinct.

Though the BJP which could win Jabalpur Cantonment seat only twice since it has had a very strong presence in the constituency. Presently, the BJP MLA Ishwardas Rohani is also the deputy speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly.

Jabalpur cantonment was represented by Dinesh Chand and Chandra Mohan of Congress twice while Ishwardas Rohani of BJP won consecutively during the last two terms.
