Jamaican 200 metres champion Steve Mullings faces a two-year ban after a positive test for testosterone at the national trials in June.
International Association of Athletics Federations spokesman Nick Davies said on Saturday Mullings had tested positive for an excessive amount of the male sex hormone.
Mullings had been scheduled to run for Jamaica in the Athens Olympics which opened on Friday.
