A 'Japanese garden’ will soon flourish in Kaushambi, a known Buddhist tourist spot near Allahabad. Certainly meant to provide a new identity to the place, the garden is meant to attract Buddhist tourists who visit the spot in hordes each year.
However, surprisingly this is just a part of the package for development with many more in the row which will add new dimensions to the city, said RK Yadav, regional tourist officer.
"Kaushambi will be developed extensively. It will soon have a new outlook as it is all set to undergo a major transformation from tourism point of view.
With the sole approach towards developing the area as the major tourist hub, there are plans to attract as many Buddhist tourists as possible", said Yadav.
"For the purpose we need 100 acres of land in the area for which we have already had discussions with the District Magistrate of Kaushambi.
However, we are much interested in acquiring the land of the gram samaj for which a request has already been made", he said.
"The Japanese Garden which will be developed on the land will have all the facilities vital for the tourists. With the statue of Buddha as the major landmark to be installed in the centre, the garden will be developed into a place of meditation. It will have the peaceful atmosphere with the lush green surroundings, waterfalls and shelters so that tourists find the atmosphere as amicable as possible," said Yadav.
"Besides we are also planning to construct as many tourist-friendly structures as possible viz museum, art gallery, centre of monument conservation, youth hostel for the youngsters, reservation centre to facilitate the booking of tickets, community centre etc. There will also be restaurants and an auditorium where the visitors will enjoy the cultural events. A separate shelter facility will be provided to those who are not able to afford the expensive ones but are keen to visit the place", added Yadav.
"Greenery will be developed in the area too with special emphasis on the plantation of saplings.
Bus stand and parking slots will also be set up.
The problem of power crisis in the area will be solved through the arrangements for the installation of additional transformers", he said.
"The entire proposal has been sent to the Tourism Department, Government of India, which will be finalised within a month. After framing the entire project from architectural point of view and its further approval, the fund will be released in installments by the government. The entire project will take 4-5 years to get completed", added Yadav.
"With so many developments coming up, Kaushambi too will occupy a major position among its counterparts such as Kapilvastu, Sarnath, Kushinagar and Shravasti", said Yadav.
