"We are against the proposed changes in the CrPC. The proposed changes are likely to intrude into the functioning of the judiciary," Bar Council of Jharkhand chairman Prem Chandra Tripathy said.

The strike paralysed the functioning of the Jharkhand High Court, districts courts and other judicial institutions.

The central government plans to amend section 309 and 50 of the CrPC authorising police stations to grant bail in petty crimes.

The lawyers argue that the proposed move would not only intrude in the functioning of the judiciary but also promote petty crimes in the country.
