Confirming the news, Ms Khan replied by a text message, "Yes, I have signed up for it, but I can't say anything more than that."

Not surprising, since the contract she has signed with the actor-producer forbids her from talking about it to the media.

Aamir Khan and director Murugadoss, who also made the original south Indian hit, have been looking for an actress for a long time.

Initially, Ayesha Takia was confirmed for this role, but opted out due to some issues with the production people and the director.

Apparently, even Priyanka Chopra was being considered for the role.

Although Nishabd didn't click at the box office, the stunning Jiah has certainly been noticed by many in the industry for her inhibited performance.

Khan had Salman recommended her for Rajkumar Santoshi's London Dreams and Boney Kapoor's Hindi remake of Pokhri.

The film also features Asin, who played the lead in the south Indian original.. but here, she's playing the second lead.
