London based NGO Jammu and Kashmir Council for Human Rights (JKCHR) has asked the Unite Nations to improve the quality of education and health, eradicate poverty, and foster peace in Kashmir.
JKCHR has requested Swiss President Adolf Ogi, who is Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace that the spirit of The Second UN Magglingen Conference on Sport and Development needs to be extended to the violence infested geography of Jammu and Kashmir and the people living under three administrations on both sides of LOC need to be involved through common sports programme to improve the quality of education and health, eradicate poverty, and foster peace and tolerance.
JKCHR Secretary General Dr. Syed Nazir Gilani said that although JKCHR has been playing a lead role in the Rights Movement of the people of Kashmir yet it is unwise and against the best interests of people if vested interests continue on a one point agenda of highly politicising the civil society.
He reminded India and Pakistan as member nations of UN to honour their respective trust obligations arising out of their respective controls in Kashmir. He has asked India and Pakistan to stand behind the The Magglingen Call to Action, which urges governments, sports organizations, athletes, development agencies, the private sector and others to promote sport for peace or development in their fields.
The JKCHR has also urged UN to encourage India and Pakistan "to engage in a dialogue on visions, goals and frames of action" which would increase the area of benefit of common man and woman in Kashmir.
