Thesun.co.uk reports that Ledger, who died on Jan 22, was just six weeks from finishing the movie. Now director Terry Gilliam wants Depp to film the remaining scenes.
"There is a point in the film when Heath falls through a magic mirror. He could change into another character after that and that is where Johnny would come in. It's a weird, fantasy, time travel movie so Heath's character could easily change appearance. It would be a poignant moment. Johnny's not working at the moment so everyone is praying he will do it," said a source.
It was also recently revealed that just three days before his death, Ledger had a fight with the movie's bosses when they refused to re-shoot a scene that he was not happy with.
An insider said: "It's a big clue as to the state of mind Heath was in."
