"We warn the state Government of serious consequences if the Central University Jammu is not made functional," JPPF chairman Thakur Pavitar Singh told reporters in Jammu on Saturday.

"State and Union government should avoid such situation by appointing a competent academician of high caliber, preferably a local one, as Vice Chancellor and make CUJ functional," he said.

Condemning yesterday's police lathicharge on students protesting inordinate delay in making CUJ functional, Singh said, "The use of force against the students pressing for a genuine demand and fighting for a just cause peacefully shows the inhuman face of the police and the state administration."
