A Division bench, comprising Chief Justice SR Bannurmath and Justice Thothathil B Radhakrishnan, after hearing the case had reserved the orders on January 14.

During the hearing, police submitted that the investigation was carried out meticulously based on true facts but the bench criticised the police probe on many occasions.

The state government also informed the court that it was not 'afraid' of a CBI investigation in the case and that a fair probe has been conducted by the state police.

George M George, brother of deceased Paul, had alleged that police had not recorded the family's statements properly and "omitted relevant parts from their statements".
