FORMER CHIEF Minister and national vice-president of the BJP Kalyan Singh on Sunday demanded ‘reservation’ for Dalits in proportionate to their population in unemployment allowance and Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojna.
He said the Bahujan Sa,aj Party (BSP) was not a party of Dalits but ‘dalals (brokers)’ and was openly ‘selling ticket’ to its candidates for the coming Vidhan Sabha elections.
Singh claimed that he had never imagined that the corrupt would rule the roost in this way. He urged the Centre to introduce a bill for reservation in jobs in private sector, too. He also suggested stern action against those private sectors that would refuse to introduce reservation in their establishments.
Addressing a rally organised by the Anusoochit Janjati Morcha of the BJP at the GPO Park, Singh targeted BSP more than the BJP’s arch rival Samajwadi Party (SP). Amidst slogans of ‘Jai Sri Ram’ and pledge to complete the construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya at the earliest, Singh dubbed Mayawati as a politician who ditched almost everybody, including the BJP.
He alleged that she was using the names of great Dalit leaders like Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.
Terming the unemployment allowance as an election gimmick, Kalyan Singh said that it would render the youth useless. They would become unfit for any job and that was why he preferred jobs for youths to allowance, he added.
He regretted that the minority education institutions had been exempted from implementing the reservation policy only to keep the Muslim vote bank intact.
He also opposed reservation for those Dalits who had converted to Christianity or Islam. Such people ceased to become Dalit the moment they joined any other religion, he added.
He also said that ‘vanchit’ should be used for the word ‘dalit’ and called upon the party workers to fight for Dalits’ cause without caring for any vote bank.
Speaking on the occasion, leader of the Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Lalji Tandon condemned Mayawati for ditching the saffron brigade which made her Chief Minister thrice.
Tandon accused Mayawati of collecting huge money from ticket distribution and other illegal means. State BJP president Keshari Nath Tripathi and Kalraj Mishra, who also spoke on the occasion, observed that the only party genuinely bothered for the Dalits was the BJP.
