Actor Kamal Hassan has been selected as the 'Guest of Honour' for the 34th international film festival of India, begining on October 9 at New Delhi.
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani would be the chief guest, an official press release said here today adding actress Kareena Kapoor will be the 'Thali Girl' for the inagural function.
Asian competition section would be the highlight of the festival this year, presenting latest cinematic trends in the continent. The best film by an Asian director will garner the Golden Peacock award with a cash prize of Rs five lakh.
Over 55 films from around 40 countries will be screened during the mega annual show, it said.
In the Indian Mainstream section, 12 feature films had been selected for screening, while in the Indian panorama section, 18 feature and 13 non-feature films would be screened, the release said.
