Karnataka CM faces revolt from 40 party MLAs

Forty of the BJP’s 106 MLAs revolted against the embattled Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa on Wednesday, after the Opposition accused him of misusing his position to de-notify state-owned land to favour his kin.

A senior BJP leader, apparently looking for a comeback to Karnataka politics, is known to have persuaded the 40 MLAs to sign letters expressing their lack of confidence in the CM.

Forty is more than one-third of the BJP’s strength in the 221-member assembly. These members can formally split from the party and avoid disqualification.
