"There are hundreds of cases where the compensation and rentals for the land, under the army use, have been settled, but the money is not being disbursed among the people due to procedural delays," said PDP leader and Member of Parliament Tariq Hameed Karra during his speech made at Ganderbal on Sunday.

He said the defence minister should take a call on the matter and order speedy disbursement of the land compensation and rent.

"For most of the people, it is the only source of income," he said.

Karra, while expressing dismay over the curtailment of flight timings at Srinagar International Airport, asked the visiting defence minister to intervene.

"He should take note of the matter so that the tourist season doesn't get affected due to the decision of the Indian Air Force (IAF)," said Karra, who defeated Farooq Abdullah in the Lok Sabha polls recently.

"Given the fact that June, July and August is the peak tourist season in Kashmir, the IAF decision to begin runway renovation at this time seems to be an unwise move as it will jeopardise the tourist arrivals to Kashmir," he said.
