Karunanidhi said he had asked party's district secretary and former minister KKSSR Ramachandran and other party workers to involve themselves in relief work.

In a statement here, he said that such fatal accidents had become common in Virudhunagar district.

Expressing his condolences to the bereaved family members of the deceased, he also wished speedy recovery of the injured persons.

Thirtynine persons died in the fire at a private cracker manufacturing unit at Mudalipatti near Sivakasi on Wednesday.
