BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai alleged that senior Congress leader K Karunakaran had entered into a secret understanding with the CPI(M) to ensure the victory of his son Muraleedharan in the Wadakkanchery assembly by-poll and daughter Padmaja in the Mukundapuram Lok Sabha seat.

Addressing reporters here, Pillai said that the CPI(M) and Congress had been 'hobnobbing' with each other in the polls to local bodies in Thrissur district. The recent election of Karunakaran nominee as the deputy mayor in Thrissur with CPI(M) backing was an example of this, he said.
He said Karunakaran, who was criticising Union minister O Rajagopal for seeking votes in the name of development in Thiruvananthapuram, should clarify what he had done for the constituency when he had represented it.
The Congress and CPI(M) were contesting against each other in Kerala only to fool the electorate, Pillai said.
