In a message to him, Karunanidhi said "I convey my hearty congratulations on your assuming office as Chief Minister of Karnataka state. Best wishes to you for a comfortable and happy tenure as Chief Minister".

Yeddyurappa was the first political leader from Karnataka to agitate against Hogenakkal drinking water scheme and had on Thursday announced that he would talk to Karunanidhi on the project.

The DMK leader who had put the project on hold until completion of elections in Karnataka in the aftermath of a violent agitation in Karnataka opposing the scheme, had issued orders for its completion on schedule.

Karunanidhi had asserted that the Rs 1334 crore project aiming to augment drinking water needs of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts, would be completed as scheduled.

For his part, Yeddyurappa said on Thursday at Tumkur that "after discussing the issue in the state cabinet and seeking the opinion of Advocate General, I will lead a delegation to call on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. We will protect Karnataka's interest on Hogenakkal".
