Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, himself a film script and dialogue writer, will set a new record soon when he operates the clapboard for ten films during a single ‘muhurath’.

The ten movies to be launched on a single day is part of the 25 films being planned during 2007 by the Pyramid-Samira group, which runs a chain of cinema halls with digital projection. The date for the muhurath would be fixed very soon.

"It is our way of thanking Karunanidhi whose government has given a fillip to the film industry by its concessions and by reducing cinema fares. We want to reverse the trend in Tamil cinema where the annual output of films has fallen from 150 a decade ago to just 80 now," explained Natarajan, chairman of the Pyramid-Samira group.

The group plans to open 150 multiplexes in Malaysia and also produce Chinese films he added.
