DMK sources said Karunanidhi would call on state Governor SS Barnala on Friday after a meeting with leaders of the DPA alliance in the morning.

With the PMK and the Left parties having already announced their decision not to participate in a coalition government and instead extend support from outside, Karunanidhi is likely to get letters of support from these parties to enable him to stake claim for government formation.

PMK and the Left parties had in their election manifestoes declared support to a DMK ministry from outside. PMK leader S Ramadoss is likely to send his letter to the governor on Thursday night, party sources said.

DMK is also in touch with the Congress high command, DMK sources told.
