The Anti-Narcotics Cell arrested Amjad Pathan, in whose car 8 kg heroin and 9 kg hashish was being allegedly transported to Mumbai.
Officers said Pathan and his two brothers reportedly run a brown sugar peddling ring. Pathan’s brothers are absconding.
“We have found that the drugs had come from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh,” said S. Jadhav, from the Worli unit of ANC.
The nine who were arrested on Thursday have been remanded to police custody.
The ANC on Thursday received a tip-off that a consignment of narcotics would be brought into the city in a copper-coloured Mitsubishi Lancer. A trap was laid near Mulund check naka on the Thane-Mumbai highway.
“The drugs were hidden in cavities in the flooring and doors of the car,” an officer said.
Five of the nine are historysheeters. One of them, Baban Wani (26), has a murder case besides charges of drug dealing against him.
