Jatin Sarkar, who was a key witness against the then police circle officer Dinesh Yadav and main accused Moninder Singh Pandher, was drowned last Saturday in Behrampur in West Bengal's Mushidabad district, his wife Vandana told PTI.

Vandana, however, suspects that her husband was murdered. "He was an important witness in the Nithari killings case and there is every possibility that he was murdered," she said.

Sarkar had given evidence against Pandher in the CBI court on the murder of his daughter. His counsel Khalid Khan said the death will benefit Pandher in a big way.

"Nothing can be done to Pandher in the Pinki Sarkar murder now and only Surender Koli will be prosecuted," Khan said.
