A jobless Hong Kong father admitted to a court he hacked off his 16-year-old daughter's head with an axe and threw it into a rubbish bin for not showing him enough respect, a news report said on Thursday.
Li Chi-tang, 67, axed Li Yuk-ping to death in the living room of their Hong Kong apartment in February last year then cut off her head in the bathroom and dumped it in a rubbish bin downstairs.
He then tried to kill his 20-year-old son when he arrived home, hacking at his head, hands and fingers before the son escaped, the South China Morning Post reported.
Li pleaded guilty to manslaughter and wounding at a hearing in Hong Kong's High Court Wednesday and was ordered to be detained indefinitely in a psychiatric hospital, the newspaper said.
The court heard that Li, who lost his job as a waiter in 2000, decided to kill his family because he believed his wife was having an affair and that his children did not show him enough respect.
Judge Michael Lunn said psychiatric reports showed Li was suffering from a delusional disorder and suffered from paranoia towards his wife, a cleaner, and their children.
Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang expressed concern earlier this year at the rising levels of domestic violence in the city of 6.8 million and pledged resources to try to reverse the trend.
