Kohli effect: Uttarakhand crisis takes back seat on social media

Virat Kohli’s killer knocks on Sunday evening did not just sweep Australia out of the World Cup T20 match. It also relegated the Uttarakhand political crisis to the back burner of social media.

Virat Kohli’s killer knocks on Sunday evening did not just sweep Australia out of the World Cup T20 match. It also relegated the Uttarakhand political crisis to the back burner of social media.

BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, a key player in the Uttarakhand crisis, used to tweet with fervour about the President’s rule in the state. But last night, he sent out a series of tweets on cricket.

Former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah too, shifted from politics to cricket. While his daytime tweet said :

Post-match, he put up three tweets on India’s victory.

Shilpi Tewari, one of the BJP’s key flag-bearers in the social media, even took the opportunity to pitch for nationalism.

Tewari, a vocal opponent of AAP, also used another tweet on the game to score some points. She retweeted

Finance minister Arun Jaitley congratulated Team India on Monday:

“Congratulations Team India for an incredible win against Aus & storming into semifinals of T20 World Cup. Well played @imVkohli @msdhoni.”
