City athletes performed brilliantly on the concluding day of the meet. Athletes of Maharishi Vidya Mandir (MVM), Ratanpur and Carmel Convent School, once again, put up an excellent show by winning gold in the 4X400 m relay races.
The team of Kriti Gupta, Shivani Roy, Sneha George and Ashrutha Mohite won the first gold of the day for the capital in girls’ under-14 4X400 m relay. Besides, winning the race, the team set a new meet record after completing the race in 4.39.5 seconds. Gulf team that took 4.42.3 seconds stood second in the race.
The second gold for the capital bagged by the team of MVM Ratanpur. The team set a new meet record after winning the race in 3.26.99 seconds. The team comprised Gajendra Singh, Atif Khan, Manoj Kushwaha and Vikas Singh won the race without any close competition from any other participating team. Police DAV Public School had to content with the second position.
Vipin Kasana of MVM, Ghaziabad stood first in the under-19 boys’ javelin throw event. Interestingly, he was second athlete of the day from from MVM setting new meet record. Breaking the record, he threw the javelin to a distance of 63.32 m.
Minister Finance Raghavji was the chief guest of the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony marked the scintillating cultural programme presented by the school students. CBSE Chairman Ashok Ganguli presided over the function.
In his welcome address, organing secretary SN Rai said the MVM Ratanpur’s management has proved that big event could be organised in the City. In his address, Ganguli lauded the efforts put by MVM, Ratanpur for successfully conducting the mega event. Finance Minister expressed the same views. MVM Group Chairman Dr Girish Chandra Verma, Dr Prakash Joshi and others were present.
Kriti is ‘best athlete’
KRITI GUPTA of Carmel Convent School did the City proud by wining the best athlete medal in the under-14 girls’ category. “I know it is always tough for any athlete to won medals at national and international meet. I am working hard to win laurels to the State and the nation,” said the 13-year-old Kriti. She has been selected for the Tata Sports Academy. She will join the academy from the next session.
