NCP's decision to back industrialist Rahul Bajaj, jointly pitted by Shiv Sena-BJP in the Rajya Sabha by-election in Maharashtra, on Tuesday came under attack from RJD supremo Lalu Prasad who said it was against the spirit of UPA coalition and should be reviewed.

"The formation of UPA was to keep RSS-BJP out of power. It was this reason that brought disparate political parties together. NCP joining hands with SS-BJP has given a wrong message. It is against the spirit of UPA coalition", he told reporters.

Referring to Bajaj being fielded as an independent candidate with full backing by SS-BJP and support of NCP, the Railway Minister said it was not only just the question of who was backing whom but also the NCP's decision has raised the question of "credibility" of the UPA coalition.

"I will ask the NCP chief to review it", Prasad said adding that his opposition to the NCP move was based on principles.

He also parried a question on Udhav Thackeray's statement saying this was the beginning of a new dimension in state politics.
