Caring two hoots for dozens of government orders and above all the High Court, with official connivance, these builders are busy spoiling the very environment of this great city.

Call it official apathy or connivance, the million dollar question is: Who will take action against the erring officials who are busy filling their coffers and in the process defacing and defiling the city which has now been declared a metropolitan town ?

Come to Fort Road crossing where an unauthorized five-storeyed group housing scheme is under construction.

As per laws, the builder ought to have provided space for parking of vehicles, open space and a park for children.

But the building is sans all these provisions. Provision for front set back and rear set back is a must.

However it doesn't exist. This building in other words is a perfect example of a worn out Roadways bus in which except the horn the entire body honks.

All this despite the fact that the enforcement wing of the ADA is supposed to inform the Vice-Chairman and all other top officers about any illegal building activity, take orders and act accordingly.

The map of this building is said to have been passed in two phases.

The first phase was on 1000 sq yds while the other was on 700 sq yds. But at the site actual construction is taking place on 2300 sq yds.

The same builder has undertaken a similar construction activity in front of Sachan nursing home in George Town.

The building is coming up in flagrant violation of all the building laws.

Hectic construction activity is going on on Park Road despite the fact that sealing orders of the building have also been issued. Making a mockery of laws the same builder sold away nearly all the flats of another nearby complex despite the fact that demolition orders had been issued by the ADA.

However, the demolition order file is gathering dust.

When contacted on the issue the ADA VC, OPN Singh, said he would look into the matter.
