The State Government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 46 lakh to construct 48 chambers for lawyers at the district court.

However, the lawyers have put their tables in the chambers and nameplates outside.

This has happened despite the fact that the district judge has directed the agency carrying out the construction work to lock the chambers and hand over the keys to the Nazarat Department.

Sources said that State Government has issued some guidelines to allot the chambers, stating that four advocates would be allotted a single chamber.

Chambers would be allotted to senior advocates and three others will be attached to him. The security money for the chambers will be deposited in the treasury. But the security amount was not fixed.

Sources said that security amount would be finalised at a meeting of the Civil Court Bar Association and the district judge.

According to reports, the working committee members of the association decided to fix Rs 40,000 as security money. The main allottee would pay Rs 16,000 and the three others would pay Rs 8,000 each. The proposal will be placed in general body meeting for approval.

The main allottees of the chambers would be responsible for maintenance of the chambers.
