ORGANISATIONS BECOME powerful entities when a group of leaders come together and believe they have a shared vision for ensuring success, said Linda Moore, Partner of the Canada-based organisation ‘tng’ on Tuesday.

She was delivering a talk on ‘Leadership: A View from Canada’, at MB Club, in the State capital. The Lucknow Management Association (LMA) organised the talk.

Moore said that people came together in an organisation not only to make a contribution to its success, but also expected something from the organisation in return.

“Many young people nowadays are looking at the future and trying to find out what’s in store for them. I and Brad Quinn, who are partners now in ‘tng’, have earlier worked for many private sector organisations and NGOs. Both of us found that there was something amiss in organisations we worked for in Canada.

Somehow things were not aligned and young people were thinking about what the future held for them,” she said.

Quinn, accompanying Linda on the India tour, in his talk said that when organisations found a purpose for people to work, they became sustainable.

“One must find people who can lead others in the organisation. It is also imperative to make people find their innate capabilities to work. The essence of having sustainable organisations is to make people learn by sharing information with each other,” he said.

“People must take a journey to find out who they are. If you create a purpose for living, involve everyone in the experience,” he said.

“Leadership is all about actualising yourself”.

This means that people must have the courage to make changes in an organisation.

To this, Moore added: “Build small teams in an organisation and encourage them to work together. The CEO must have the corporate vision adopted by the small team members.”

“You will be surprised that when you have a corporate vision, you find out that there are many things people are capable of doing for the organisation,” she added.
