Affen Pinscher : This dog has seriousness, intensity and humour bundled together. It looks like a cartoon but is an efficient rabbit tracker. It does not respond well to obedience training but is a good companion. It weighs about 3 kgs, and is about 25-30 cms tall. It is covered with coarse hair and sometimes called the "Monkey Dog".

Afghan Hound Sophistication, Beauty, Grace, Elegance and Dignity of the Afghan has been developed in the west to make this a very fashionable dog. But in Afghanistan it is still used to guard sheep and goats and to hunt wolves. A thick long coat protects it from the cold.Show-dogs must be groomed everyday toavoid matting. This breed has an independent streak and requires a lot of training. Afghans weigh aroung 25 kgs and
about 65-75 cms tall.


Airedale Terrier This is a born watch-dog and has been used for police and sentry work. But it is also a stubborn dog. It has a characteristic beard and a hard dense wiry coat that requires expert grooming for show purposes. It has its origins in Yorkshire (G.B.). It was used for hunting badgers but is now a companion dog. It weighs 20-23 kgs and is about 60 cms Dog.

Alaskan Malamute This has a wolf-like appearence but is an affectionate dog. It is powerful and has a lot of stamina. It is used in sled-racing competetions. The dense coat makes the breed prone to heat strokes in warm weather. It is named after the Mahlemute Inute of Alaska. It weighs between 40-55 kgs and is 60-70 cms tall.

Australian Cattle Dog This dog was originally bred by an Australian pioneer, Thomas Smith Hall, who wanted a dog strong enough to withstand the hard-work of droving cattle and the Dingo's ability to creep up silently on a prey before attacking. He thus created the Australian Cattle Dog from bloodlines of the Bob-Tail, The Blue-Merle Collie and the Dingo. The Dog weighs betwen 16-20 kgs and is about 45-50 cms tall.

Australian Kelpie The Kelpie is a tireless, robust and enthusiastic dog, which is Australia's most popular and successful working Dog. It derives its name from the water kelpie, mentioned in Robert Louis Stevenson's "Kidnapped". This is used for livestock herding and is unsuited for city life. It weighs between 10-20 kgs and is 45-50 cms tall.

Australian Terrier This breed has descended from the Cairn,Yorkshire, Skie and Norwich Terriers and was used to work in the farms as a ratter. It is now a companion dog. It has coarse hair all over its body. It weighs about 5 kgs and is 25 cms in height.
