Can there possibly be a better way to spend a luxurious summer break than in a villa set in a beautiful and serene location? Booking a villa instead of a hotel room is turning out to be a great alternative for those who have spending power but are unwilling to experience the cookie-cutter treatment of a standard luxury hotel.

A villa is especially desirable when one wants plenty of privacy — on a honeymoon, or a holiday with friends. The best villas come fully equipped with gymming facilities, a pool, recreation areas and a chef who will rustle up anything you want.

Akshay Kaul of Travelscapes, which specialises in luxury holidays and destination management, says that villas are the preferred holiday accommodation for people looking to spend quality time while exploring the surroundings.

“We have villas in Phuket and Koh Samui in Thailand and in Bali and Australia. There are options from a two-bedroom villa to a seven-bedroom space. There is a DVD movie theatre, wi-fi connectivity, spa and massage service, a bar with a selection of wine, beach access and all facilities equal to a five-star hotel. You will be served your favourite cuisine at all times of the day. Activities include water sports, golf excursions and shopping tours. There is a villa for every pocket as the charges range between US$80 per room per night and US$240 per villa per night (for three-bedroom villas).” For details, mail to

Richard McEwan Peters of Portofino Park, located near Taj Hotels in Goa, says that one can visit these villas located on a small hilltop any time of the year. Charges differ from season to season. “You get a view of the backwaters from the terrace and it’s a 10-minute walk to the beach. There are four bedrooms with bathrooms, open kitchen, a communal pool and an entertainment room. There is also a maid service.” The charges are £5,000 for a week in March and £4000 for a week in April. Contact him at

People who’ve had the villa experience can’t stop raving about it. Singer Sophie Chaudhary says that they offer the best holiday experience one can dream of. “South of France is the best place. My friend and I spent a summer at a villa in Cannes. We cooked, shop, had barbeques and went on drives. We had our own pool and garden. It was lovely!”
